Samokov bread for Blagovets

This lean bread is fragrant, soft and sweet. In Samokov it is prepared especially for Annunciation Day (Blagovets) and shared with family.

Ingredients:

  • 500g flour (sifted)
  • 1 packet dry yeast (or 20g fresh)
  • 1 tsp sugar (for activating yeast)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 250ml warm water
  • Sugar for sprinkling on top

Instructions: Activate the yeast. Knead soft dough with remaining ingredients. Let rise for about 40-60 minutes. Shape 3 round loaves and let rise again for 10-15 minutes. Brush with water or oil and sprinkle generously with sugar. Bake at 180°C for about 30-35 minutes until golden.
