Pitka Recipe

Recipe for festive pitka (round bread), braided into twisted strands.

Ingredients:

  • Flour – 1 kg
  • Cool water – 250 ml
  • Eggs – 3 + 1 for brushing
  • Butter – 100 g
  • Yogurt – 150 g
  • Oil – 30 ml
  • Sugar – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon
  • Dry yeast – 2 packets

Instructions: Dissolve the yeast in cool water with sugar. Beat the eggs with salt and yogurt, add the yeast. Gradually add flour and knead soft dough. Let it rise. Divide the dough, roll out sheets, brush them with butter, roll into logs and twist into strands. Braid them and place in a pan. Let rise again, brush with egg yolk and bake at 180 degrees for about 40-45 minutes.
