The folk songs in Belene and Nikopol reflect the life of the local people along the Danube. Their themes include love, labor, the river, and freedom. They are performed at gatherings and festivals, accompanied by horo dances and celebrations. The songs are mostly slow, melodic, and sung in one or two voices.
